The ruling Bangladesh Awami League and all of its associate bodies have decided to remain active at all levels to resist all kinds of terrorism and criminal activists so that the ill-motivated forces, including BNP-Jamaat could not destabilise the country.
As part of the moves, the ruling party will stage demonstrations and hold rallies countrywide on June 4 in protest against the death threat to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Awami League.
The decisions were taken at a joint meeting of the Awami League. The meeting was held Tuesday morning at the Awami League's central office at 23, Bangabandhu Avenue. The presidents and general secretaries of Awami League’s Dhaka Metropolitan North, Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League, Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka South City Corporation units of Awami League were present at the meeting. President and General Secretaries of all the associate bodies and organisations of the Awami League were also present there.
Meeting sources said, addressing the BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said that the political field was not leased to anyone.
“Mirza Fakhrul, I say don't play with fire. There is Awami League. If you threaten to assassinate Sheikh Hasina, we will not let it happen. There is no compromise with terrorists”, said Obaidul Quader.
The AL’s general secretary said, Awami League and its leaders and activists cannot stay inactive when BNP tries to create chaos on campus with Chhatra Dal, shouts the slogan 'Rise to the tool of '75 again’ and issues threats to kill Awami League president Sheikh Hasina.
“We cannot suck our fingers”, said Obaidul Quader and continued as saying, “If the BNP, in the name of movement, tries to create anarchy, they would be resisted with strong hands.”
The ruling party general secretary also asked all the leaders and activists to take preparations to resist all kinds of crimes and terrorism by any forces.
He also directed them to remain alert in all areas so that none could make the country’s situation unstable.
At the end of the meeting, Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, a Joint Secretary of Awami League, informed about the party’s decisions taken at the meeting.
Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said leaders, activists and all the supports of the Awami League and all other associate bodies, including Jubo League, Chhatra League and Krishok League have remained alert and active so that BNP-Jamaat and no other forces could make the country’s situation unstable.
“All the party men have been asked to play their own roles in this regard”, said Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif.
Awami League presidium member Colonel (Retd) Faruk Khan, Dr. Abdur Razzak and Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretary Ahmed Hossain, Afzal Hossain and Mirza Azam, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Mrinal Kanti Das, Office Secretary Biplob Barua, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Abdur Sabur and president and general secretary of Dhaka North and South units of Awami League, Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation, Presidents and General Secretaries of all associate bodies, among others, were present at the meeting.
