Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said the final decision will be taken soon over the sharing of seats with the members of the 14-party alliance.

"There should be a consensus between the AL and the other 14-party components. The issue of seat sharing will be clear within today or tomorrow," he told a press conference at the AL President's Dhanmondi political office in the capital on Tuesday afternoon.

Quader said as per the expectations and reality of the 14 parties, a decision will be taken about the seat sharing within today or tomorrow.

The decision will be taken by understanding the demands of the allies and the reality regarding meeting their demands, he said.

The AL general secretary said the allies can raise demands but the adjustment has to be done through understanding, while the main spirit of seat sharing with 14 party leaders is to win the upcoming national elections.

"Our meeting with the 14-party alliance is politically more important than seat sharing. We are putting emphasis on political issues. Sometimes we hold meetings with 14-party allies and there was a meeting last night (Monday) too. Political discussion gets more priority at the meetings," he said.

Quader said the 14-party alliance will fight unitedly to deal with the conspiracies being hatched at home and abroad.

"We will fight by strengthening the unity of the 14-party alliance," he said, adding that there is no lack of political unity among the 14 parties."

The AL general secretary said talks continue with Jatiya Party and time will tell what to do.

AL Presidium Member Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Organising Secretaries BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam and Sujit Roy Nandi, Office Secretary Biplab Barua and Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil were, among others, present.
