Information and Broadcasting Minister as well as Joint General Secretary of the Awami League Dr Hasan Mahmud said, “If anyone in the Awami League makes indecent remarks, the party takes action against them unlike BNP that patronizes them.”

He was speaking as the chief guest at a programme held to distribute prizes of a essay and quiz competition titled ‘Tarunyer Tarjani’ organised by Bangladesh Government Employees’ Welfare Federation on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth centenary at Bangabandhu International Convention Centre in city’s Agargaon area on Wednesday afternoon. Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and presidium member of the Awami League Bir Muktijoddha Shahjahan Khan MP and Anwar Hossain Khan MP addressed the function as special guests.

“If someone from the government party says there will be protest, it is normal. In that case, everyone has got the proof that our government or party does not give concessions to anyone. But in the case of the BNP, why everyone was silent - that is my question”, he said.

Dr Hassan further said, “Former state minister for Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Dr Murad Hassan's recent remarks and actions have been widely criticized and since they have tarnished the image of the government and the party, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked him to resign and the Jamalpur district Awami League has expelled him from the district committee.

“Various organizations and their leaders including BNP Secretary General have also spoken about some of his statements. We welcome that statement because if someone does something wrong, there must be a protest”, he mentioned.

“However, we can see that when BNP leaders say such indecent things, do such things, their party have never taken any action against them, never made a statement,” the information minister remarked.

The Information Minister appreciated the efficiency of the government employees and said that they are playing a very important role in the management of the government.

After the speeches of Lutfar Rahman Khan, the founding president of the organisation and other leaders presided over by Hedayet Hossain, President of Bangladesh Government Employees’ Welfare Federation, the guests handed over the prizes to the winners.
