The ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL) hopes to complete full-fledged committees of 31 organisational districts, which have already held councils, by next December, said party sources.

At the same time, according to the leaders concerned, councils of the remaining 48 organisational districts will be starting from next January subject to the Corona situation.

Party’s senior leaders said they have already held several meetings with the leaders from many district units and there are schedules on holding meetings with leaders of several other districts.

They said they were thinking of holding councils of the upazila and union levels before the district unit councils.

Several AL leaders in-charge of the party's organisational activities said before the completion of the full-fledged committees of different units, they were verifying allegations against different leaders, aspiring to be leaders in the new committees. Organisational punitive measures would be taken against those to be found guilty.

AL’s Presidium Member Kazi Zafar Ullah said, “There are various allegations against many of the leaders. We are communicating with everyone on the phone. Face-to-face meetings will also be held soon. We want to discuss everything with everyone so that all the committees are formed with better leadership.”

Talking about Khulna, which is under his own jurisdiction, the AL Presidium Member said, “Councils in 6 out of 10 organisational districts in Khulna have been held, but there has been no full-fledged committee. Discussions have been held on how we can finalise these committees quickly. I am trying to hold the conference of the remaining 4 district units within the next two months.”

Another Presidium Member, Lt. Col (Retd) Faruq Khan said, there are some allegations against some district committees formed after councils. The divisional-in-charge team will verify those allegations and try to solve them. Then final committees of those districts will be submitted to the party chief, Sheikh Hasina.

Awami League’s joint secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim said work on the expired district councils were supposed to start earlier. But because of the Corona pandemic, they could not finish the job.
