Chattogram's Anwara upazila parishad chairman and his followers snatched away a 'handcuffed accused' from police custody on Saturday night after his arrest linked to a factional clash on Friday afternoon.
Five police members, including the Karnaphuli Police Station's OC Md Zahir Hossain, were injured during the incident and a police vehicle was vandalised.
According to the OC, a case has been filed with the police station over a clash between two local AL factions on Friday (June 7).
Police conducted a raid at Bhojonbari restaurant area at about 11pm on Saturday getting a secret information that Mozammel, one of the accused in that case, was staying there.
"When we arrested Mozammel from the spot, hundreds of AL activists led by chairman Mozammel equipped with sticks attacked us and snatched away the accused. They also threw brickbats to police. The AL men then vandalised a police vehicle, said OC Zahir."
