A gang of miscreants stabbed with sharp weapon to an Awami League leader and his son on way of mosque on Friday noon at Dewanbari area under Fatulla police station in Narayanganj.
The injured were identified as Shafiullah Shofi, sports and culture affairs secretary of Fatulla thana unit of ruling Awami League, and his son Sonom.
Local sources claimed that Shofi and his son were going to mosque named Mujdalefa for performing Jumma prayers and when they reached near mosque the hideout criminals attacked them and stabbed with sharp weapon.
On information, sub-inspector (SI) of Fatulla police station Abul Kashem rushed to the spot and recovered the injured. Later, they were sent to Narayanganj General Hospital.
The attending physicians of the hosptial referred Shofi to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as his condition was critical.
Family sources of Shofi claimed that Shofi had filed an extortion case against some extortionist last month and an accused suffered a few day imprisonment. The accused of that case attacked Shofi.
Police claimed that Shofi is serious injured and told police some criminals names before going to Dhaka whose names were not disclosed for the investigation purpose. Police said that they are trying to arrest the criminals.
