A local Awami League leader was killed by unidentified miscreants at Char Balua village under Char Elahi union of Companiganj upazila in Noakhali on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Md Sourov Hossain, 40, son of late Abu Taher hailed from Urir Char area under Sandwip Upazila of Chattogram. He was the former president of Char Elahi Union Parishad (ward no-6) of the upazila.
Quoting locals, Sub-Inspector of Charbalua Police Outpost Jakir Hossain said he had several bulldozer machines. He gave one bulldozer to Bahar Mia of Char Amzad village. He went to Bahar’s house to collect the rent of the machine when some miscreants numbering 10-12 attacked him with sharp weapons.
At one stage, they took Sohorab out of the house and slaughtered him, the SI added. On information, police recovered the body around 2 am and sent it to Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy, said Md Arifur Rahman, Officer-In-Charge (investigation) of Companyganj Police Station. The motive behind the murder could not be known yet. Police are investigating the matter, the OC added.
