A Dhaka court has placed former Civil Aviation and Tourim minister Lt Col (Retd) Mohammad Faruk Khan on a two-day remand in a case filed over shooting the BNP worker Makbul during a police raid at the party's central office at Nayapaltan in Dhaka.
Earlier in the morning, police pleaded to the court to place the accused former member of parliament from Gopalganj-1 constituency on a 10-day remand for questionng.
Paltan Police Station's sub-inspector Nazmul Hasan submitted a remand plea to the court.
Responding to the plea, Dhaka's additional chief metropolitan magistrate Sanaullah placed the accused on a two-day remand.
At about 1:45am on Monday, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-1 led by Major Abir arrested Lt Col (Retd) Faruk Khan from the Dhaka Cantonment area.
Later, the RAB-1 team handed him over to the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), additional commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallick confirmed.
Faruk Khan, a presidium member of Awami League, is an accused in multiple cases related to killing and injuring dozens of students during the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement.
