Once known as the fortress of BNP and Jamaat, the Chaudanga -2 constituency has now turned into a hub of Awami League politics. Awami League is pioneering the constituency in its organisational activities while the political influence of BNP, Jamaat, Jatiya Party, JSD and other parties is waning here.
The electoral constituency of Chuadanaga-2 comprises of Damurhuda, Jibon Nagar and the parts of Chuadanga sadar upazilas. The total number of voters in the Chuadanga-2 constituency is 465,710 of whom 231,559 are females and 234,151 are male voters.
The signs of development undertaken by the Awami-led government are visible elsewhere in the constituency including the rural areas. The young voters themselves are the witnesses of the development activities of the constituency for the last 15-year. These young voters are the 'Vote Bank' of Awami League in the Chuadanga-2 constituency during the 12th Parliamentary Elections.
Incumbent Member of Parliament of Chuadanga-2 constituency, Ali Asgar Tagar is now spending his busy time by engaging himself in various development activities, attending public meetings, wayside meetings, court-yard meetings and exchanging views with the party leaders and activists. He has been visiting his electoral areas daily with the ward-level and district-level leaders and activists. The ruling party is now stronger organizationally more than any time in the past. He is learnt to be devoted to serving the people of his constituency.
Among others, JSD central committee member and President of district JSD Anowarul Islam Babu, central committee member of Jaker Party Abdul Latif Juboraj, District committee member secretary of Jatiya Party Advocate Rabiul Islam, district Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Ruhul Amin and the General Secretary of district Awami League valiant freedom fighter Azadul Islam are likely to seek nominations from their party leaders to contest in the elections. They have already started their field-level communications to drum up their support in favour of their candidacy.
In the constituency, Awami League candidate Ali Asgar Tagor has been elected as the Member of Parliament for the consecutive third term from 30 December 2018. The number of voters in the constituency was once almost equal in numbers between the Awami League and the BNP. Due to the relentless effort of the incumbent Lawmaker Ali Asgar Tagor, a strong foundation of the Awami League has been created in the constituency. There having no grouping and feuds among party insiders, a strong vote bank for the party has been created here.
On the other hand, BNP is infested with various problems including organisational weakness and groupings. BNP district convener Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu is a possible candidate for BNP from the Chuadanga-2 constituency. It is alleged, being an industrialist, he seldom visits Chuadanga and attends only a limited number of party programmes. The organisational activities of the party also remained stalled.
Ruhul Amin, Ameer of district Jamaat is also a possible candidate. He has been continuing his organisational activities with the party leaders and activists. Jamaat candidate was also once the winner in the constituency.
There is no Jatiya Party candidate from the constituency. Member Secretary of District Jatiya Party Advocate Rabiul Islam informed, JP has been playing a vital role in the Parliament and the party will participate in the election.
Incumbent Member of Parliament Ali Asgar informed, before his membership, people of the constituency were deprived of any facility. There has been unprecedented development during the last 15-year and lots of people have been changed. Prime Minister has allocated funds for development activities in his constituency on a priority basis. There is not a single space left without the touch of development. He hoped to make the constituency fully developed after being elected as the MP in the 12th Parliamentary elections. He further mentioned he is getting prepared with his party leaders and activists to contest the elections.
Valiant Freedom fighter Azadul Islam, General Secretary of district AL informed, he has been seeking nomination from the party since 1991 but failed to get it. He added he is not a pessimist rather he is an optimist on all issues. The decision of the Nomination Board headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the final in this connection.
Hasanuzzaman Sajib, President of district Islami Andolon informed, the party will not take part in any election under any partisan government. He added the party wants a congenial atmosphere to hold the elections where the fundamental rights of casting polls of the people will be ensured.
Convener of district BNP, a possible candidate from Chuadanga-2 constituency Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu informed, participating or not participating in the elections depends on the decision of the party. But, he said, the party will not participate in the elections if it is not held under a neutral, caretaker government.
District President of JSD Anowarul Islam Babu informed, he is getting prepared for the elections. Voters like the JSD. All the leaders and activists of the party are working together. JSD always believes in elections and it is the reality that people will cast their votes in this independent country.
