Akhtaruzzaman, Chumki face tough battle in Gazipur-5 seat

Vigorous election campaign is going on in Gazipur-5 constituency. Former parliamentarian, former student leader independent candidate freedom fighter Akhtaruzzaman and current member of parliament Awami League nominated candidate Meher Afroz Chumki are in the main contestents in this seat.

Akhtaruzzaman is fighting with the Truck symbol and Chumki is fighting with the Boat symbol. Meher Afroz, who is MP for three times, has developed area considerably. On the other hand, independent candidate Akhtaruzzaman has a bright role as the chairman of Gazipur Zilla Parishad in that constituency. Both are popular. However, according to voters, Meher Afroz Chumki (Boat) will be challenged in the election battle. Akhtaruzzaman is likely to win this election. He was once General Secretary (GS) and VP in Dhaka University Student Parliament Election. He is good-natured. The voters of that area said that there is public involvement with him. The two candidates are attracting voters by holding road meetings throughout the day and even at night. Candidate Akhtaruzzaman said that he will do incredible work for the overall development of his area in the road meeting in Tumilia Union on Tuesday. The rival candidate also criticized Chumki.

Meher Afroz Chumki is the daughter of Muktarpur area of Kaliganj upazila. Shaheed Moyez Uddin's daughter. At present, the president of Central Women's Awami League. A total of five candidates are contesting in this seat. A significant number of top leaders of local Awami League are campaigning for Akhtaruzzaman. Gazipur 5 Consti­tuency consists of Kaliganj Upazila, Bariya Union of Sadar Upazila and Pubail area of Gazipur metropolis. The number of voters is 3,33,613. Election will be held on January 7.
