AIUB organises workshop on the use of Turnitin

The Vice Chancellor of American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) Dr Carmen Z Lamagna organized a workshop on the use of Turnitin as an important tool to improve the quality of research recently in the auditorium of the university.

It was a mandatory workshop for all the faculty members. Some senior students also attended the workshop. The VC emphasized the need for the use of Turnitin being a valuable tool to help the faculty and students in ensuring that their research output is free of plagiarism and other infirmities in conducting research. The management is subscribing to the tool and therefore, its use must be maximized said the VC hence, the workshop.

Turnitin is a tool which checks and prevents plagiarism, an unethical way of citing and inappropriate copying of published works of other writers and researchers. The tool can detect these unprofessional actions of researchers, faculty and students who are generating information and data from publications, journals, websites, books, articles and others without properly recognizing the source.

During the workshop, the VC was assisted by AIUB IT experts, Manirul Islam, director of Continuing Education Center and Dr Khandaker Tabin Hasan, head, Graduate Programme, Faculty of Science and Technology.

It was a fruitful session making everybody aware of the existence of this tool. It is expected that the quality of research outputs of the students and the faculty members either as an internship requirement or for publication in the journals will be enhanced.
