The authorities have announced temporarily closure of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) and Osmani International Airport following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government.

All flight operations at these airports have been suspended since 4:45 PM on Monday.

HSIA’s Executive Director, Group Captain Kamrul Islam, confirmed this information to Bangladesh Post. He stated, “All flight operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have been suspended since 4:45 PM on Monday. We have not received any instructions regarding the resumption of flights yet. We will inform once further instructions are received.”

An airport official has informed that the suspension of flights would last for six hours. He said that all immigration police and other departments had vacated the airport, leaving only Air Force personnel on site. Consequently, all operations at the airport are temporarily halted.

Earlier on Monday afternoon, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina submitted her resignation letter to the President and subsequently left the country. Following her departure, the military has taken control. Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman announced the transition after an emergency meeting at Dhaka Cantonment at 3:50 PM.

General Zaman said, “We will form an interim government to run the country. I have taken responsibility for the safety of the people. Do not be disheartened. All your demands will be met.”

He urged everyone to cease violence and assured that the army and police would not use firearms.

“Cooperate with us. Every murder related to the ongoing movement will be investigated, and justice will be served for every wrongdoing,” he added.

Similarly, flight operations at Sylhet Osmani International Airport have been suspended for six hours starting from 5 PM on Monday.

Director of Sylhet Osmani International Airport, Hafiz Ahmad, informed the media that flight operations would resume upon receiving further instructions.

The ongoing situation in the country has led to the suspension of all flights from Chittagong Shah Amanat and Saidpur airports to Dhaka. ISPR sources disclosed this information on Monday, also revealing the temporary closure of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital for a period of 6 hours.
