Agro officer continues to support farmers

A Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer has been a true friend to the farmers through his constant perseverance. Mohammad Hamimul Haque Sohag, working in Angiadi block of Pakundia upazila of Kishoreganj district, has been a guardian angel to the farmers of his area.  

Since his joining at Pakundia upazila agriculture office in 2006, he has been able to establish himself as an acceptable official to the farmers through close communication, establishing friendly relations, resolving any problems and implementing various agricultural activities. 

From the implementation of departmental guidelines and the persecution of conscience, he has always advised the farmers to use various new technologies.

Many farmers who depended only on paddy cultivation earlier have become involved in diversified vegetable cultivation. Apart from traditional vegetable cultivation, farmers in the area have also cultivated squash, broccoli, lettuce, beet root, tomato, various local and foreign fruits like dragon, kashmiri kul, bal sundari kul, delicious Egyptian guava, Vietnamese coconut and Burmese watermelon. He has also expanded the use of yellow color traps, sex pheromone traps, banana and other fruit bagging, use of tricho-leachate, use of vermicompost, tricho-compost, farm fertilizer and mulching paper instead of chemical fertilizers in the implementation of organic farming.

In recognition of his innovative work, Deputy Director Agriculturist Md. Saiful Alam from Khamarbari, Kishoreganj selected him as the best Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer (First) of the district on January 19. Bashir Ahmed Sarkar, Additional Director, Dhaka Region, provided him with a crest and certificate. 

Members of various agro-based organizations and farmers also congratulated him on receiving the award. As a skilled extension officer, he has trained the farmers following the technology he has seen. Nizam Uddin of Khama village received the Bangabandhu National Agriculture Award 1423. 

A farmer named Salma got the opportunity to officially change her fortune and receive training in Indonesia. He has developed a number of farmer groups by familiarizing them with seed production and storage technology. The farmers' groups have received AIF-2 funds as they are eligible to receive funds for the NATP-2 project. In this way, by involving many farmers with different technologies, he has improved the fortunes of the farmers.
