Agriculture fair kicks off in Ishwardi

A three-day agricultural fair was inaugurated at Ishwardi in Pabna on Saturday. Under the 'Tuber Crop Development Project', this fair was inaugurated at the office premises of the Agriculture Officer around 11:00am.

Galibur Rahman Sherif, Member of Parliament of Pabna-4 Constituency, inaugurated the fair as the chief guest by releasing balloons and cutting the ribbon.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Subir Kumar Dash presided over the inauguration ceremony of the three-day agricultural fair organised by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE). Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Mita Sarkar gave the welcome speech. Newly-elected Upazila Vice Chairman Abdus Salam Khan, Upazila Woman Vice Chairman Atia Ferdous Kakali and Ishwardi Press Club President Mostak Ahmed Kiran spoke as special guests. DAE officer Prallab Kumar Kundu conducted the event.

Galibur Rahman Sherif MP said no development activity can be done by damaging the agricultural land. He also urged the farmers to follow the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina- ‘Not even an inch of land can be kept uncultivated’. 

He also said that steps should be taken to stop the activities of middlemen so that farmers get fair price. The traditional way of farming has been changed to a great extent. Modern equipment is being used in agriculture. Food production has also been increased. Food production should be doubled and brought to export level. So, Bangladesh will become completely self-sufficient. 

Later, the chief guest and others visited several stalls of the fair. The agricultural fair will continue until June 24.
