Aghore Mondal, a prominent figure in sports and media, has passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital. The senior journalist, who died at the age of 58, is survived by his wife, two daughters, and numerous well-wishers.
Aghore Mondal had been suffering from kidney complications since the beginning of August. His creatinine levels had risen significantly, which was somewhat managed through dialysis. However, his condition worsened after he contracted dengue, leading to further complications. He was subsequently moved from a general ward to the ICU, where he was placed on life support a couple of weeks ago. Sadly, he passed away on Wednesday afternoon.
With a career spanning over three decades, Aghore Mondal began his journey in journalism with Ajker Kagoj in the 1990s. He later worked for the Morning Paper and played a pivotal role in mentoring many of the country's established sports journalists. In the early 21st century, he transitioned to broadcasting, working with Channel I, Deepta, and ATN News for an extended period. His last position was as the head of multimedia at ATN News.
Aghore Mondal covered numerous international tournaments both at home and abroad. Beyond sports journalism, he also served as a news editor. Despite his busy schedule, he managed to write at least one sports column each month.
At the time of his passing, Aghore Mondal was the Acting President of the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association. The association stood by him and his family throughout his treatment.
