The trial inauguration of Metrorail from Agargaon to Motijheel route will be in operation today. All preparations of the trial run of Metro-Rail route would be completed before midnight on Wednesday.
Nazmul Islam Bhuiya, the Deputy General Manager of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, said on Thursday that Road Transport and Bridges Minister ObaidulQuader will inaugurate the metro rail operation on the Agargaon-Motijheel route on an experimental basis on Friday (July 7). Regular metro rail will run from Friday next.
Meanwhile, Additional Project Director (Electrical, Signal and Telecommunication and Track) of Dhaka Mass Transit Development Project (Line-6) Mohammad Zakaria said, “Metrorail started running at midnight so that there is no problem in the inaugural run.”
And after a long wait, the second phase of Agargaon-Motijheel route of Metrorail has been targeted for passenger transport in October.
Zakaria also said that more than one kilometer route of metro rail has been increased from Motijheel to Kamalapur. It will take time to complete this portion of the work. The length from Motijheel to Kamalapur is 1.16 km. The Prime Minister directed to extend the route to connect Kamalapur railway station with metro rail.
In the meantime land acquisition, construction and procurement of 'E&M systems' are being done in addition. Initially it is running from Uttara to Agargaon. Once fully operational, Metrorail will be able to transport 60,000 passengers per hour and 500,000 passengers per day.
