Afghans take on India today

Afghanistan will take on India today in the Super 8 Group 1 match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. 

The inaugural champions from of the T20 World Cup, India will be coming into this match after topping the Group A standings in the league stage with three wins and one no result. Meanwhile, Afghanistan dented the hopes of New Zealand and finished at second place, after West Indies in Group C standings to seal the Super 8 spot.

Afghanistan have drubbed the likes of Uganda, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea in their first three wins at the T20 World Cup 2024, with their batters and bowlers stepping up as a collective unit. However, in their last match, co-hosts West Indies overpowered their spin attack, handing then a 104- run defeat in St Lucia. 

But, with the likes of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Gulbadin Naib, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Naveen-ul-Haq, and captain Rashid Khan, who have been the top performers thus far in the tournament, can turn things in their favour at any given moment.

The Men in Blue, led by the astute Rohit Sharma, enter the fray with a formidable reputation and a squad teeming with talent. With a blend of seasoned campaigners like Virat Kohli and dynamic newcomers, India's batting depth is enviable. The bowling department, spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah's precision, Mohammad Siraj’s fiery pace and Hardik Pandya's flair, has been nothing short of impressive.

Team India, who are yet to lose a match at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, will be the favourites to get the better of Afghanistan despite a neck-and-neck battle.
