Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Farooq-e-Azam visited different Rohingya camps in Ukhia upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday and interacted with Rohingya people and NGO representatives.
During his visit, Rohingya representatives sought the government's cooperation in repatriating them to their homeland. In addition, the adviser visited various hospitals run by WFP and UNHCR for women.
Freedom fighter Farooq-e-Azam visited the e-voucher outlet of Rohingya ration withdrawal programme conducted by WFP at Camp-4 in the morning. On this occasion, he expressed his satisfaction with the activities of WFP and suggested further consolidating its activities. He also visited the Hope Hospital for Women in the same camp and discussed women's healthcare. After discussion with the doctors, he urged them to improve thequality of service.
Later, the adviser visited a project funded by UNHCR at Camp-5. He observed jute bags and other handicrafts made by Rohingya women and discussed the export opportunities of such products in the international marketwith the officials. He called for such initiatives to be expanded in the future.
At the end of the visit, the advisor participated in a view-exchange meeting with Rohingya boatmen, clerics and women at Camp-8/West. The Rohingya representatives sought the government's cooperation in repatriating them. Adviser Farooq-e-Azam urged them to live peacefully and assured that efforts will be made to complete the rehabilitation process of Rohingyas expeditiously.
He also interacted with the NGOs operating in the camp and appreciated their work. He also expressed satisfaction with the activities of APBN for ensuring overall security.
During his visit, Secretary of Relief Ministry Md Kamrul Hasan, NDC, Additional Secretary Md Hasan Sarwar, Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammad Mizanur Rahman and Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar Mohammad Salauddin were also present.
