All government and private secondary schools located in metropolitan areas and district sadar upazilas will admit students through a lottery for the upcoming academic year of 2025. This process will apply to students from first to ninth grades. The decision was made at a meeting held on Thursday the Ministry of Education. Schools under the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) will follow this system. Several sources attending the meeting shared this information.

An official order is expected to be issued next week, outlining the detailed process. This lottery system was introduced earlier due to the COVID-19 pandemic, starting from the academic year of 2021. Initially, only first-grade students were selected through a lottery, but the system expanded to all classes because of health and safety concerns during the pandemic.

The meeting was chaired by Kh M Kabirul Islam, Additional Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Department. The meeting emphasized the importance of ensuring transparency and fairness in the admission process.

Each year, the admission process starts toward the end of the year, with classes beginning in January. This lottery-based system is expected to help manage the large number of applications for limited seats, ensuring an equal chance for students to gain admission.

The Ministry of Education has yet to release the exact dates for the lottery. Parents and guardians are advised to stay updated on the upcoming announcement, which will include detailed instructions for the admission process for all eligible students across the country.
