‘Adequate trees should be planted to save environment’

Panchagarh-1 MP Mohd. Naimuzzaman Bhuiyan said adequate trees should be planted to protect the environment from natural calamities.

He also said we need to increase afforestation. Everyone should work to protect the environment by creating extensive public awareness. More and more trees should be planted to keep the country green as the trees give us oxygen. This oxygen helps us stay alive. So, there is no alternative to tree plantation to build a modern smart Bangladesh.

The lawmaker further said, “To protect the country from the harmful effects of global climate change and various natural disasters, we will have to pay the highest attention to protection of the environment. Implementation of tree plantation programmes is very important to leave a habitable world for the future generation.”

He said, “The country has become a role model of development due to the efficient leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”

The MP came up with the assertion while he was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a tree plantation programme at Mohananda Park in Puraton Bazar area under Tetulia Upazila of Panchagarh on Saturday.

He also said about 6,000 saplings were planted in various educational institutions, at open spaces of the government, beside roads and highways of the Upazila on a priority basis. Around 1,00,000 more saplings will be planted respectively this season, he added.

Later, he distributed grant cash to the beneficiaries and planted saplings.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Tetulia Fazle Rabbi presided over the programme. Deputy Commissioner Zohurul Islam, wife of the lawmaker Major (Retd) Kazi Mousumi, Senior Director of BRAC head office KAM Morshed, Deputy Director of Department of Agricultural Extension Agriculturist Abdul Matin, Upazila Chairman Nizam Uddin Khan, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mahbubul Hasan, Officer-in-Charge of Model Thana Sujay Kumar Roy and others were also present at the programme.
