A forced retirement has been recommended for former additional deputy commissioner of the detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Md Golam Saqlain over 'intimacy' with Pori Moni while working on a case filed by the actor.
Deputy Secretary Rokeya Parvin Jui from the Discipline-2 Branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs gave this recommendation for forced retirement on June 13. In a letter, the Home Ministry requested suggestions/advice/ recommendations from the Public Service Commission secretary regarding the reinstatement of the police official's forced retirement under section 4, sub-section 3 (kha)of the Employee Discipline and Appeal Rules, 2018.
The decision was made following reports from several media outlets that claimed Golam Saqlain had engaged in unprofessional conduct with Pori Moni while supervising the case filed by the actor against five persons, including businessman Nasir U Mahmud.
The disciplinary branch's report mentions that Saqlain began regularly spending nights at actress Pori Moni's residence, as proven by the forensic report of his mobile phone.
Upon reviewing the report, it was found that the messages exchanged between him and Pori Moni (from July 29 in 2021 to August 3 in 2021) on Facebook Messenger under the names Samsunnahar Smriti aka Pori Moni, and Golam Saklain Sithil.
Investigators also found that the WhatsApp conversations (from July 11 in 2021 to August 4 in 2021) were not of a general acquaintance or professional necessity.
Instead, they were in a romantic relationship.
In the report, forensic analysis of CCTV footage shows Pori Moni's comings and goings at the Madhumati Police Officers Quarters in Rajarbagh.
Despite being married and a father of one, Saqlain established an extramarital relationship with Pori Moni.
It was also proven that she had spent time at his government residence in the absence of his wife.
Earlier, in 2021, Md Golam Saqlain was transferred to the Public Order Management division from the detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) amid discussions of his intimacy with actress Pori Moni.
Pori Moni gets bail in attempted murder case
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to film actress Pori Moni in a case filed by Uttara Club Limited's former president Nasir U Mahmud in 2022 on charges of attempting to murder him and issuing threats.
The court also granted bail to her costume designer Junayed Karim Jimmy alias Jimmy in the same case.
Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate M Saiful Islam passed the order after Pori Moni and Jimmy surrendered in the court and sought bail in the case.
At the same time, the court fixed October 1 as the date for hearing on framing of charges in the case.
On April 18, the court accepted the charges against Pori Moni and Jimmy and issued a summons for them to appear before it on June 25. The court also discharged Fatema-tuz-Jannat Bony, another accused in the case, as the investigation officer did not find any involvement on her part.
Former Dhaka Boat Club executive and businessman Nasir filed the case with the Dhaka court on July 18 in 2022.
On the other hand, Pori Moni filed a case on June 8 in 2021 with Savar Police Station, against six persons, including Nasir Uddin, for attempting to rape and murder her at the Dhaka Boat Club in Savar's Birulia. This case is under trial in the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-9 of Dhaka.
