A Dhaka court on Thursday sent Managing Director of Haque Group of Industries Adam Tamizi Haque to jail in a defamation case filed against him under the Digital Security Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque's court gave this order after the hearing in the afternoon. At the same time, the court has fixed the date of the bail hearing on January 10.
Before this, the investigation officer of the case, Social Media Crime Investigation Team, DB Police Inspector Md Rezaul Karim produced him as per the order of the court. Adam Tamizi was brought to the court from the rehab centre around 3:20pm on the day. After that, he was kept in the CMM court's jail in Dhaka. He was produced in the court around 3:30pm. Earlier, Adam Tamizi Haque was sent to a rehabilitation centre for a mental health test.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner and Detective Branch (DB) chief Md Harunor Rashid said that a case was filed against Adam Tamizi for writing various things on social media, leading to his arrest by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) Dakshinkhan police station. After his arrest, concerns about his sanity arose due to his behaviour and speech.
Due to his drug addiction, he was sent to a drug treatment centre or rehab. During the court proceedings, it was informed that DB believed he needed treatment due to his incoherent speech.
He was also sent to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and Hospital for treatment on the court's orders.
