National Sports Council (NSC) has dissolved the existing executive committees of nine federations as per the 2018 Act. In addition to the dissolution, the governing bodies of the federations have also formed ad- hoc committees. The NSC has dissolved the existing committees of the Athletics, Hockey, Kabaddi, Chess, Bridge, Squash, Billiards, Basketball and Tennis Federations and formed ad hoc committees. Many former organizers and players have returned to this ad hoc committee.
Four of the five GrandMasters (GM) of Bangladesh's chess became during Syed Sujauddin's tenure. The former player and bureaucrat has now been nominated as the president of the ad hoc committee of the Chess Federation. Fide master Taibur Rahman Suman is the general secretary of the Chess Federation. Shoaib Riaz Alam, the joint secretary of the previous committee, is the only one who has been given ad hoc status in the 14-member ad hoc committee. He is the vice-president of this committee.
Athletics is one of the top local federations in the country. Former star athlete and former general secretary Shah Alam has been nominated for the post of general secretary. Since athletics is a large federation, the length of the ad hoc committee is 19 people. Star athlete Farid Khan Chowdhury could not be elected in the previous committee. The National Sports Council has nominated athletes who have won national sports awards as members. In addition to former athletes and organizers, there are also some businessmen.
Hockey is recognized as the third most popular team game in the country after football and cricket. Clubs are in a dilemma over the post of general secretary. The NSC has not chosen any club or district official as the general secretary of hockey. Colonel Riazul Hasan of the Army Sports Control Board has been made the general secretary. Among the former players, the committee includes Abu Zafar Tapan, Shanta, Shahidullah Dolan. Istiak Sadek and some other businessmen have come from the sponsor category.
Former general secretary Istiak Ahmed Karen has been nominated as the general secretary of the Tennis Federation. The senior and experienced organizer has been away from the sports arena for more than a decade. The National Sports Council has given him the responsibility of tennis in difficult times. Karen has been made the secretary and Dhaka Bank Chairman Abdul Hai Sikder has been made the secretary. The 19-member committee includes former players, organizers and businessmen-sponsors.
There has been no change in the general secretary position in the squash federation. The NSC has made retired Brigadier General Kamrul Islam the general secretary. Naimul Hasan has been made the general secretary of the intellectual game Bridge Federation. Bridge is practiced in Bangladesh at the Bangladesh Bank Club. Therefore, some bridge players from Bangladesh Bank are in the committee.
Newaz Sohag, the joint secretary of the previous committee, has become the general secretary of the national game Kabaddi. The NSC has chosen Sohag after bypassing former players, coaches and organizers. The Kabaddi Federation had a large number of police officers. The Joint Secretary Gazi Mozammel Haque, who was criticized in the professional field, has also been appointed as the Joint Secretary of the National Sports Council Ad Hoc Committee.
Although all the names and titles of the nine committees are computer-typed, the name of this Joint Secretary of the Kabaddi Federation is handwritten.
Brigadier General Sarkar Muhammad Shamsuddin, advisor to the US Bangla Group, has been nominated as the president of Billiards-Snooker.
Player and businessman Riasat Karim Bhuiyan has been appointed as the general secretary. Former player Dr. Shamim Newaz has been appointed as the president of the Basketball Federation and former player-coach Major General Atiqul Hafiz as the general secretary. Deputy Press Secretary of the Chief Advisor Apurba Jahangir is a member of the basketball team.
