Accused tries to get exemption in digital law case

A case was filed under the Digital Act for spreading obscene comments on Facebook and Messenger against a dead man in Gazaria village of Bajitpur upazila in Kishoreganj a few months ago. ShamimSikder, an assistant teacher at Katiadi AdarshVidyaniketan, became the plaintiff in the case and filed a case naming two persons.

The accused in the case are Al-Amin (25) and Abu Zaman (45) of Gazaria village.The main accused Al Amin (25) was arrested and sent to court after five months, but the police were not able to arrest Abu Zaman. 

According to the complaint, Abu Zaman spread defamatory statements in the area about late GiasUddin who was barried adjacent to Abu Zaman's house. He also complained to various people about the matter. Then Abu Zaman encouraged a local youth Al-Amin to post about that on Facebook. Al-Amin later spread the obscene comment on social media Facebook and Messenger. 

When the matter became known among the people of the area, anger created among people at one stage. Later, Shamim Sikder, son of late Gias Uddin, filed a case with Katiadi Model Police Station mentioning the names of the two. Five months after the case was filed, Abu Zaman, one of the accusedclaimed to be an illiterate farmer to get relief from the digital law case.

According to the statement, a case was filed on October 19 under the Digital Act for spreading obscene comments on social media Facebook and Messenger against the late GiasUddin in Gazaria village.

Abu Zaman's elder brother Mubarak Hossain said, "After learning about the case, I tried to resolve it several times but it was not resolved."

The plaintiff in the case Shamim Sikder said, “Since the case was filed, Abu Zaman has been trying to influence the case by presenting false information in the media. I strongly condemn the incident and demand justice through a proper investigation.

Katiadi Model Police Station Officer in charge SM Shahadat Hossain said, “I have already arrested Al Amin, the main accused in the case filed under the Digital Act, and sent him to court. The police official said that the investigation report will be completed soon and the police report will be submitted to the court.”
