Ichhakhali Fazil Degree Madrasa Principal AKM Rezaul Karim is still holding his post even after an audio clip of him demanding money from a candidate for giving question papers before the recruitment test went viral on social media.
Besides, the candidates who were recruited at the Fazil Madrasa in Narsingdi’s Palash Upazila through the ‘controversial recruitment test’ have already joined the institution.
Earlier on February 29, the Narsingdi district administration issued a letter to the then Madrasa Governing Body President Sarker Kawsar Ahmed, requesting him to take action against the accused principal, AKM Rezaul Karim, for his involvement in the question paper leakage of the recruitment test.
As the then Madrasa Governing Body President Sarker Kawsar Ahmed resigned from his post after the issuance of the letter, the Narsingdi district administration issued another letter to the new Madrasa Governing Body President Al Mujahid Hossain Hossain Tushar, urging him to take actions in this regard.
Several members of the Fazil Madrasa’s governing body said after getting the first letter of the district administration, they met the local lawmaker who told them to take action against the accused principal in the light of the letter of the district administration. After returning from the meeting, Madrasa Governing Body President Sarker Kawsar Ahmed resigned from his post. The madrasa has already got new governing body president, a decision in this regard will be taken in the next meeting, they said.
Gojaria Union Parishad Chairman Jakir Hossain Chowdhury, also a member of the Madrasa Governing Body, said the local lawmaker directed them to take action in the light of the letter issued by the district administration.
Denying the allegation against him, Principal AKM Rezaul Karim claimed that the allegation brought against him is false, fabricated and a ‘conspiracy’ of a vested quarter. The mobile call was recorded without his permission, which is a punishable offense as per the constitution, he said.
New President of the Fazil Madrasa Governing Body and Ghorashal Municipality Mayor Al Mujahid Hossain Tushar said only a meeting was held before the Eid after he became president (of the madrasa governing body). The 19th general meeting of the governing body will be held on May 18 and the next decision will be disclosed after the meeting.
When contacted, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Milon Kanti Krishna Halder said the district administration has issued a letter for taking action against the principal. The madrasa governing body will hold the next meeting in this regard, he said.
Narsingdi Deputy Commissioner Dr Badiul Ala said the new governing body president has been given a direction after an audio clip on the recruitment test went viral. Measures will be taken against the principal in the next meeting, he said.
On December 14 last year, the madrasa authorities published an advertisement in a newspaper for recruitment of candidates in three vacant posts -- head of Ibtedayee branch, computer operator and lab assistant.
Madrasa sources said the recruitment test was held on February 23 this year. Two candidates were selected through the recruitment test.
