Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a prisoner, who escaped from Narsingdi jail on July 19, from his house in Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj district on Saturday.
The inmate, Nabi Hossain, 48, son of Shahabuddin of Lakshmipur area in Bhairab upazila, is an accused in a robbery case.
The members of CPC-2, Bhairab camp of RAB-14, conducted a raid on the prisoner's house in the morning and arrested him.
RAB-14, CPC-2 Bhairab Camp Squad Commander ASP Md Shahidullah confirmed the matter on Saturday afternoon.
He said that during the movement demanding the reform of the quota of general students across the country, an attack by miscreants took place in the Narsingdi District Jail on July 19. In the afternoon, he managed to escape from the jail and reached Itakhola bus stand on foot. Later, he came to his own house in Bhairab with a CNG-run vehicle and hid himself.
ASP Md Shahidullah said that Nabi Hossain was involved in the bus robbery incident in Belabo Upazila of Narsingdi district in 2008. The police arrested him immediately after the robbery incident. Three months ago, Bhairab Thana Police arrested Nabi Hossain on warrant and sent him to court.
The RAB officer said Nabi Hossain was one of the 826 prisoners who escaped after the attack on Narsingdi district jail on July 19. The detained accused has been handed over to Belabo Police Station in Narsingdi for further legal action.
