The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against Afzal Hossain, head teacher (principal) of Meherpur's Gangni Pilot Secondary School and College, on charges of acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income.

The case was filed on Wednesday with the ACC's integrated district office, Kushtia. Nil Kamal Pal, assistant director of integrated Kushtia Office of ACC, filed the case as the plaintiff.

ACC sources said principal Afzal Hossain's tangible assets are inconsistent with the statement of his movable and immovable assets submitted to the ACC investigation team.

According to the statement of the complaint in the case, Afzal Hossain purchased 8.25 decimals of land in the name of his wife Selina Akter in Banshbaria Mauza with his own income in 2010. The deed value of the land is shown as Tk 40,000. A two-storied house was built on that land in 2012.

Afzal Hossain's income statement given to the ACC shows the house construction expenses as Tk 27.6 lakh. Two representatives of the Public Works Department along with Afzal Hossain determined the actual construction cost at Tk 64.33 lakh. In this way, he has hidden the real cost of house construction work.

Afzal Hossain has hidden Tk 38.65 lakh in the statement of movable and immovable assets. In the overall review of the case application, Afzal Hossain's total acquired wealth is Tk 2.03 crore.

Principal Afzal Hossain could not give any satisfactory explanation to the ACC investigation team regarding this asset.

Meanwhile, Syed Maidul Islam, deputy assistant director of Kushtia District Office, which is part of ACC, recorded the case.

Nil Kamal Pal, assistant director of Kushtia office, said the charge sheet will be sent to the court after the investigation into the case.
