Abu Hena reappointed as NBR chairman

Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem was reappointed as Senior Secretary and Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), for two more years.

His contractual appointment as the Senior Secretary of the Internal Resources Division and the Chairman of the NBR has been extended for the next two years -- with effect from January 6, 2024 or date of joining, the Ministry of Public Administration said in a circular on Wednesday (January 3).

Muneem was appointed to the NBR as the Chairman on January 6, 2020 under a two-year contract. He was scheduled to go for Post Retirement Leave (PRL) on January 5 of 2022. However, his tenure was extended by another two years.

Prior to that, he served as the Senior Secretary to the Energy and Mineral Resources Division from April 11, 2018.

Earlier, Muneem served as the Chairman (Secretary) of the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation. He joined Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration) cadre on January 21, 1986.

Muneem obtained his Bachelor and Master degrees in Geology from Dhaka University. Later, he obtained Master of Business Administration from Northern University, Bangladesh.

He was born on January 6, 1961 in a Muslim family at Sadar upazila in Sirajganj district.

In his personal life, Muneem is the father of a son -- Muhtasim Aziz Muneem, and a daughter -- Namira Nawar. His wife Laila Jesmin is an Additional Secretary to the government.
