The farmers in six Jashore region districts have produced about 16 lakh tonnes of rice in the transplanting Aman (T-Aman) in the current season. They have harvested 3.455 tonnes of rice on each hectare when the climate was almost favourable which has been playing role to develop the socio-economic state of the farmers, said the farmers and the officials of the department of agricultural extension (DAE) in Jashore region.
Abdul Latif, 56, a farmer of Bishoykhali Bazer area in Jhenaidah sadar upazila said he had completed the harvesting of his T Aman from his two bighas of land a few days back. He had harvested 29 maunds of paddy from each bigha for an amount of Taka 32,000 where he had spent Taka 15,000 for seeds, fertilizer, irrigation, weeding and day labourer purposes.
The present price of the paddy had satisfied the farmers like him, Abdul Latif said.
According to a source related to the office of the additional director of the department of agricultural extension in Jashore region, they had taken target to produce T Aman on 456,705 hectares of land in the season, while the farmers produced the same of 459,321 hectares under the farming in the season. It was additional 2,616 hectares than the target.
The farmers in Jashsore produced 459,044 of rice on 140,406 hectares, Jhenaidah farmers produced 372,088 tonnes on 104,355 hectares, Magura farmers produced 220,464 tonnes on 62,101 hectares, Kushtia farmers produced 315,909 tonnes on 88,919 hectares, Chuadanga farmers produced 128,411 tonnes on 36,700 hectares and the Meherpur farmers had produced 91,390 tonnes of rice on 26,440 hectares of land in the season.
The average yield of rice on each hectare was 3.455 tones, DAE sources said.
Additional director the DAE in Jashore region Abu Hossain when contacted the farmers were very lucky to produce the T Aman in the season as there was no major attack of pest and diseases.
A few of the paddy plots were affected by a pest titled “Currentpoka” which was managed by the farmers with the assistance of the field level DAE staffs sub assistant agriculture officer.
The good yield and good prices of the paddy brought smile on the faces of the farmers in six Jashore regional districts this season, Additional director said.
