Adviser to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and Industries Adilur Rahman Khan said that all the quotas of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) should be lifted and the plots should be opened to the public through lottery.
He said these at a discussion at Rajuk Auditorium on Monday noon. RAJUK organized the discussion on the occasion of World Habitat Day-2024.
Adilur Rahman Khan said that all the quotas of RAJUK should be lifted and the plots should be opened for the people through lottery. Let there be a lottery for buying land in Dhaka.
He said that providing housing for the poor is a challenge for everyone and urban development needs to be started now by involving the youth.
In the same event, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change and Water Resources,
said that RAJUK's accountability and transparency could not be observed.
“Where is the problem in involving the youth in the board of RAJUK? New Bangladesh has to overcome many ups and downs. The young generation has dreamed of building a new Bangladesh. He also said that it is not possible to make Dhaka livable without them’ Rizwana added.
The advisor also said that settlement does not mean only having a house, but there must be a livable environment. If it's a mega project, what will happen is that people need a playground.
