Abducted child rescued

The District Intelligence Police has rescued a child who was abducted by Rohingya workers from Lohagara, Chittagong for ransom, from a residential cottage in Cox's Bazar city after three days. Meanwhile, a young man has been arrested on charges related to the incident.

Police Superintendent Md Mahfuzul Islam confirmed the news.

Arrested Mohammad Noor (21), son of Shah Alam, a resident of Balukhali 9 Rohingya camp of Ukhia upazila. The rescued child, Abdullah Al Minhaj (7), is the son of Faridul Alam, a resident of Chunati Bagan neighborhood of Lohagra upazila of Chattogram. Regarding the written complaint to the police and the relatives of the victimized child, Mahfuzul Islam said that one and a half to two months ago, Mohammad Noor Ramu, a local resident of Ramu Upazila, took an employment in a chicken farm owned by a person in Shah Alam. Due to the benefits of the work, a good relationship was also developed with the family members of the owner and the child Abdullah Al Minhaj. In the meantime, the owner of the chicken farm has come to know the identity of the Rohingya citizen of Mohammad Noor. On December 7, Malik Shah Alam dismissed him after paying all the dues.

"The next morning on December 8, Mohammad Noor came to take the used clothes kept at Malik's house. Meanwhile, he lured the owner's son, Abdullah Al Minhaj, by telling him to show train. Later, Mohammad Noor came to Cox's Bazar with the child."

The Superintendent of Police (SP) said, "The relatives of the child Abdullah Al Minhaj could not be found even after searching in various possible places. Later, father of the missing child filed a written complaint with Chunti police outpost in this regard. At one point on the night of December 8, Mohammad Noor called Minhaj's father Faridul Alam on his mobile phone and demanded a ransom of Tk 5 lakh. The child was also threatened to be killed if the ransom was not paid. "

After this incident, the victim's father paid Tk 40,000 ransom on two instalments. Being informed, Cox's Bazar District Police started an operation to identify and arrest those involved."

Mahfuzul Islam said that at some points on Sunday (December 10) night, the police conducted an operation on the news that the youth involved in the incident along with the abducted child were staying at the residential cottage Prince Resort in the hotel-zone of Cox's Bazar town. The abducted child was rescued from the cottage and the youth involved was arrested."

The SP said that the process of handing over the rescued child to the relatives and the arrested youth to the Lohagarh police station is underway.
