Defending champions Abahni Limited made a good start in the 12-team Dhaka Premier League, beating Partex Sporting Club by 171 runs at Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka, on Monday.
Winning the toss, Abahani decided to bat first. Abahani scored 268 for nine from 50 overs.
Partex SC bundled out only 97 runs from 32.4 overs.
Young batters Sabbir Hossain and Naim Sheikh opened the innings. The duo added 107 runs in their opening partnership.
Sabbir was the top scorer for the Sky Blues. He scored 71 runs off 59 balls with ten boundaries and two sixes. Skipper Mosadek and Naim Sheikh played an aggressive role, and they scored 42 and 37 runs, respectively. The middle order also supported the team, and Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Jaker Ali Anik made 34 and 31 runs for the team, respectively. Two right-arm medium pacers, Partex Asaduzzaman Payel and Mohor Sheikh, claimed three wickets each at the cost of 33 and 57 runs, respectively.
Pacer Muktar Ali bagged two wickets, conceding 49 runs.
To chase the huge target, Partex SC lost their wickets in the regular events.
Middle-order batter Razibul managed 20 runs for the team. Azmir and Tanvir both scored 13 runs.
Meanwhile, two left-arm spinners, Tanvir Islam and Rakibul Hasan, destroyed the Partex batting line. Tanvir Islam claimed four wickets and conceded only 26 runs, while Rakibul Isalm and pacer Saifuddin took two wickets each for 22 and 16 runs, respectively.
