A human chain program has been held in Sylhet city demanding the establishment of a public university in north-east Sylhet in greater Jaintia. The program was organised by people of greater Janitia on Saturday at the premises of the central Shaheed Minar in Sylhet.
People of different professions from Kanaighat, Jaintiapur, Gowainghat and Companiganj upazilas of Sylhet took part in the programme.
Speakers at human chain said that Greater Jaintia is a very prosperous area. The region has a rich tradition. With the increase in knowledge-research competition, the establishment of a specialised university here has become a demand of the time.
They also said the greater Jaintia area was part of the ancient Jaintia kingdom. As important as it is in terms of natural beauty, it is also important in terms of natural resources.
As a result, if a university is established in the fields of Petroleum, Environmental Science, Forestry, Zoology, Hydrology, Botany, etc., a field of research will be created here. So, we are demanding the establishment of a university here.
