Md Zamir Uddin of Chuadanga had received land and house as a gift from the prime minister as a landless and homeless. Within seven months, he became self–sufficient and returned the house and land so that another needy person can use it.

Zamir Uddin is the son of late Kheder Biswas of Shahapur village in Andulbaria union of Jibannagar Upazila in Chuadanga district.

On June 20, 2021, he received two decimal land, including a two-room house, as a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of Mujib Barsha. He was living in that house with his wife Mst Afroza and their only daughter.

Recently, Zamir Uddin bought eight decimal land in his name with the dividend of banana business. He returned the house and land given by the Prime Minister to the Jinbannagar Upazila administration after becoming the owner of the land.

He returned the land deed in a written application to Jibannagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer on January 18 this year. He mentioned in the application to give the house with land to another landless and homeless families who need them.

Zamir Uddin is being praised by the people of the village since the news of his returning the house and land spread in the area.

According to local sources, Zamir Uddin is a day labourer by profession. He used to run his family with his minimum income by working on other people's land. He did not have the money to buy land. As he was landless, he had applied to the Jibannagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer to get the land along with the house of the Prime Minister on the occasion of Mujib Barsha.

On the basis of the application, he was allotted a two-room semi-pucca house under the Ashrayan project in Shahapur Mouza of Andulbaria Union.

After finding a shelter to live in, he started a business of selling and buying bananas in different markets. He has been earning Tk 20,000-30,000 thousand per month. He has already bought eight decimal land after becoming financially solvent.

Zamir Uddin Biswas said, “At one time I had no room to live in. I did not have any land of my own. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had given me a house and a piece of land. After finding a house to live in, I started the banana business without any worries. I am quite self-sufficient now. I have already bought eight decimal land with my own income and built a house on that land. Since I have a land of my own now, I have returned the house and land given to me by the Prime Minister.”

He further said that the prime minister has shown him the way to become self-reliant.

“I became self-sufficient, bought land with my own money and built a house there. As a result, I no longer need this house and land. There are more landless and homeless families in the society who need this house. I want this house to be given to another landless family,” he added.

Chairman of Andulbaria Union Parishad Sheikh Shafiqul Islam Muktar said that Zamir Uddin Biswas was landless and homeless.

“For this reason, on the occasion of Mujib Barsha, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave him a house and land. Today he has become self-reliant by working hard. There are many who try to take advantage of the government by hiding information. In this case, Zamir Uddin Biswas has set an example of honesty by returning the gift house of the Prime Minister after becoming self-sufficient. Everyone in the village has applauded him for his great initiative,” he said.

Jibannagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Ariful Islam said, “The Ashrayan project is a dream of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. She has provided land and houses to the landless and homeless families so that no one is left homeless in the country. Under this project, a house was given to landless Zamir Uddin Biswas of Shahapur village. He is now living in his own house after becoming self-sufficient through hard work.”
