The 9th Bangladesh-US Defence Dialogue between Bangladesh and the United States of America was held recently.

According to the ISPR press release issued on May 25, the bilateral defense dialogue was held on 17 May to 18 May this year.

The Bilateral Defence Dialogue (BDD) between Bangladesh and US started with a joint declaration on the 1st BD-USA Security Dialogue in 2012. Since then, every year, the BDD takes place alternately in BD and USA. The 8th BD-US Defence Dialogue was held through Video Tele Conference (VTC) on 08 October 2020.  In this context, this year a two-day defence dialogue was organized at Honolulu in Hawaii.

The purpose of this dialogue was to facilitate a broad discussion on bilateral defence and military cooperation as a complement to the strategic dialogue. Defence cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States is warm and intense.

It is clear that the United States will continue to support the Bangladesh Armed Forces in defence development and training. Every year, many members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces are trained at various institutions in the United States, the ISPR handout said. The two countries' armed forces have been working together in UN peacekeeping missions and the war on terror.

Exchange of military visits of senior officials between the two countries is another feature of military cooperation. During this dialogue, decisions were taken to take necessary steps to strengthen relations between the two countries. This dialogue will enhance our defence and military cooperation in the areas of global and regional security, technology, defence equipment, disaster management, peacekeeping operations, training, visits, joint exercises and deployments workshops etc.

The Bangladesh delegation was led by Brigadier General Husain Muhammad Masihur Rahman,Director General, Directorate of Operations and Plan of the  Armed Forces Division and the United States delegation by Brigadier General Thomas J. James, Director of Strategic Planning and Policy of the US Indo-Pacific Command.

Defence Attachè in Bangladesh Embassy in USA was present also  in the dialogue.
