Chattogram District Administration has distributed a total of Tk45 lakh government assistance among 90 people who suffered from various complex chronic diseases, including cancer.
Department of Social Services of the Ministry of Social Welfare provided with the allowance under its social safety programmes at a check distribution program in the conference room of Chattogram Circuit House on Saturday morning.
Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel was present as the chief guest and distributed the check.
Every year about 3 lakh people are dying and suffering from cancer, kidney, liver cirrhosis, paralyzed by stroke, congenital heart disease and thalassemia. Patients suffering from these diseases die due to lack of money, and their families are left destitute to bear the medical expenses.
Ministry of Social Welfare is implementing the social security program by providing one time financial assistance of 50 thousand taka to all these helpless poor patients through the Department of Social Services.
Addressing the audience, the deputy minister said during the current government's tenure, the country saw huge development in various sectors including social
services.
On behalf of the Prime Minister, the social welfare ministry has provided cheques for various allowances among the needy.
Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman presided over the check distribution ceremony attended by Kazi Nazimul Islam, Director, Divisional Social Services Office; Rakib Hasan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General); Md Touhidul Islam, Negarat Deputy Collector; Md. Faridul Alam, Deputy Director, District Social Services Office.
