Locals have arrested nine Rohingyas from Thanarhat Bazar in Subarnachar and handed them over to the police while fleeing from Hatiyar Bhasanchar Rohingya Asylum Project in Noakhali. Among the detainees are 2 children, 3 women and 4 Rohingya men.
Arrangements have been made to send them back to Bhasanchar through the Bhasanchar authorities on Sunday afternoon. Earlier, they were arrested from Thanarhat Bazar of Charwapada Union around 2am on Saturday.
The detainees are, Md. Of cluster No. 11 of Bhasanchar shelter project. Salam's son Nur Kashem (20), the son of the same cluster Khalil Ahmed. Yunus (25), Nurul Alam's daughter Ramuja (18), 9th cluster Amir Hossain's son Hossain Johara (27), 15th cluster Nazim Ullah's son Karim Ullah (22), 13th cluster Safiul Quader's daughter Suktara (19), 14th cluster Khairun Amin's wife Parveen (28) and her daughter Jannat Akhter (7) and Nur Islam (4).
It is learned that the detained Rohingyas came to Thanarhat Bazar around 1 am on Saturday.
Later, the market committee arrested the people and locals on suspicion. During preliminary interrogation, they admitted that they had fled from Bhasanchar with the intention of going to Rohingya and Cox's Bazar. When the matter was later reported to the police station, the police reached the spot, arrested them and took them to the police station. It is learned that the Rohingyas escaped by boat through the brokers and dropped them off at Boalkhali Ghat.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Charjabbar Police Station Dev Priya Das confirmed the matter and said that arrangements are being made to send them back to Bhasanchar shelter after talking to the Bhasanchar authorities.
