Department of Environment in Khulna has razed nine illegal brick kilns in Moheshpur Upazila of Jhenaidah. The drives were conducted at Nepa, Shyamkur, Gurdah, Jalilpur, Hudamoar, Kazirber and Solemanpur on Thursday.
Saifur Rahman, director of department of environment in Khulna said they had conducted the drives with the executive magistrate of the department Masuma Khatun.
When the brick kiln owners failed to produce valid papers for running the kilns, mobile court ordered to raze the kilns.
They demolished Sohag Bricks and Masum Bricks at village Napa, Simanto Bricks and Rafi Bricks at village Shyamkur, Biswas Bricks at village Gurdah, Rado Bricks at village Jalilpur, Milon City Bricks at Hudamoar, Ruma Bricks at Kazirber and Bhai Bhai Bricks at village Solemanpur.
Saifur Rahman said that they had extinguished the fire from the running kilns with the assistance of the firefighters so that the fire could not be spread anywhere else during the demolition drive.
Huge raw bricks were also razed to the ground by rollers during the time.
The director said the brick kiln owners had been running the kilns without any clearance from the department of environment for a long. They were warned in ahead to collect the clearance from the government office which they were ignoring for a long.
Deputy Director of the department of environment Sayeed Anwar, assistant director Harun Ar Rahid among others were present during the drives.
