Nine establishments including two resorts, one dwelling house and five shops were gutted by fire in Rangamati and Chattogram on Friday.
Four establishments including two resorts, one dwelling house and a shop were gutted in a fire which broke out at Sajek in Baghaichari upazila early Friday. Senior assistant superintendent of Rangamati (Sajek circle) police, Abdul Awal, said the fire broke out around 11:30 pm at Meghchaya resort and spread to the adjacent Foringi resort, a house owned by one Bhuban Tripura and a shop.
On information, police, army, BGB members rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze after two hours of frantic effort with the help of the local people.
Primarily it is suspected that the fire might have originated from the firewood placed in the area to keep people warm.
Chaithuang Aung Chowdhury Joy, vice president of Sajek Cottage Owners Association, said all the tourists are safe.
However, the extent of the losses caused by the fire could not be ascertained yet.
Another reports adds: A total of five shops and godowns of city’s business hub Jahur Hawkers market were gutted in a fire that broke out at a godown of the market under Kotwali thana on Friday.
Md Amin, Joint Secretary of Jahur Hawkers market told BSS that the fire originated from unknown sources at a godown of Hazi Nur Sobhan Cloth store in the area at around 11.30 am today and quickly engulfed the adjacent shops.
Six firefighting units from different area in the city and district rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 1 pm this noon.
Victim shop owner Mohammad Osman claimed that the fire damaged properties worth about Taka two crore.
