An 89-kilometer circular train line will be constructed around the capital city to ease traffic congestion in Dhaka and ensure travel facilities.
There will be a nine km railway line under the ground. The rest of the railways will be elevated expressways.
Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan came up with such assertion while speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Automatic Train Washing Plant’ at Kamalapur Railway Station on Monday.
Stating that Bangladesh lags far behind in rail communication as compared to foreign countries, the Railway Minister said,“Electric trains run abroad. Bangladesh Railway is still far behind. We are moving towards that goal. Work is underway to implement the project to introduce electric trains.”
The minister said, “Among the Prime Minister’s priority projects, there are two projects under Railway Ministry. One of them will be extended from Dohazari in Chattogramto China via Myanmar. The train will go to Kolkata through Bangladesh. Bangladesh Railway will be connected with the whole of Asia.”
“Another project is Padma Rail Link which is 171 km from Dhaka to Jessore. The second railway bridge will be next to Bangabandhu Bridge. Trains will cross the Bangabandhu Railway Bridge at a speed of 100kmph to 120 kmph. There will be two separate lines on this bridge,” added the minister.
ABM FazleKarimChowdhury, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Railways and Member of Parliament for Chittagong-6 constituencysaid, “The railway service in the country has increased more than before. Now the railways are decorating with modern facilities. Passengers are able to travel safely by train.”
Railway Secretary SelimRaza presided over the function while Noakhali-1 MP HM Ibrahim and reserved women's MP Begum NadiraYasmin Jolly spoke on the occasion.
Later, the Railway Minister inaugurated the‘Automatic Train Washing Plant’ at Shahjahanpur on the north side of Kamalapur Railway Station.
