Muktarpur Naval Police recovered 82 mounds (3,300 kg) of Jatka (young Hilsa) from Dhaleshwari River under Munshiganj Sadar Upazila on Monday morning.
The Jatkas were rescued from a passenger launch named Karnafuli-4 in the Dhaleshwari River.
In-Charge of Muktarpur naval police outpost Inspector Md. Kabir Hossain Khan said, "I came to know through secret information that a huge quantity of Jatka is being smuggled on Karnafuli-4 launch coming from Bhola.
The launch was heading towards the capital.
The operation was carried out when it reached Dhaleshwari River in Munshiganj”.
The recovered Jatkas were distributed among various madrasas, orphanages and the destitute in the presence of Munshiganj Sadar Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Tipu Sultan.
