81 infected with Covid- 19 in Cox’s Bazar

81 people have been newly infected by Covid-19 in Cox’s Bazar and 1 of them is a Rohingya. With this, the number of corona victims in the district stood at 1,769 including 40 Rohingyas.

Cox's Bazar Civil Surgeon Dr Mahbubur Rahman confirmed this on Thursday morning.

Dr Mahbubur said samples of 653 suspects collected from six upazilas of Cox's Bazar and 34 Rohingya camps in Ukhia-Teknaf, neighboring Bandarban districts and Chattogram’s Satkania and Lohagarh upazilas were tested at the Cox's Bazar Medical College Hospital lab on Wednesday. 

The test results of 103 people were found to be positive. Of these, 101 were newly identified as corona positive and 2 were followed up as corona positive.

“Of the 101 people who were newly identified as corona positive on Wednesday, there are 81 residents of the district, including one Rohingya. Others include 17 residents of Bandarban, which borders the district, and three residents of Satkania upazila in Chattogram.”

The Civil Surgeon said, “Among the 81 newly infected people in the district, 50 are from Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazila, 10 from Teknaf Upazila, 7 from Ukhia Upazila, 4 from Maheshkhali Upazila and 9 from Chakaria Upazila. There is also 1 Rohingya citizen.”

According to the district health department, the number of Corona victims in the district, including 40 Rohingyas, stood at 1,069.

Among them, there are 823 residents of Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazila, 123 residents of Ramu Upazila, 216 residents of Ukhia Upazila, 145 residents of Teknaf Upazila, 269 residents of Chakaria Upazila, 79 residents of Pekua Upazila, 64 residents of Maheshkhali Upazila and 10 residents of Kutubdia Upazila.

According to the district health department, 449 of the affected people in the district have recovered and returned home by Tuesday evening. 28 people have died. Among them there are 3 Rohingyas.

Dr. Anupam Barua, Principal, Cox's Bazar Medical College (COMEC), said that testing of corona patients has started in the COMEC lab from April 1. In the last 71 days, a total of 13,083 samples of the suspects have been tested in the COMEC Lab.
