The Superintendent of police of Narayanganj district, Jayedul Alam on Thursday said 80 out of 101 lawsuits filed over rape incidents in his districts are somehow related to dispute that arose following extra-marital affairs or relationship.
Some 101 cases have been filed over rape and gang-rape incidents with all seven police stations in the district in last 10 months. “I have found that 80 of the reported incidents, in which there was a relationship between them or the victim reported a rape incident following the refusal of a marriage proposal”, he said.
The police official made the remarks at the Open House Day progamme at Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station.
SP Alam said only 21 cases were found to have merit of the rape incident and the accused were brought to book.
