More than 80 lakh people will get anti-Covid-19 vaccines across the country today (Tuesday). People aged 25 and above will be jabbed and those who have already completed the registration process will also get priority in receiving the vaccines. On the occasion of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 75th birthday, the government is going to run the special campaign to inoculate 80 lakh people with the first dose of Covid-19 vaccines. We want to term the mass vaccination campaign a courageous step by the Awami League government as no country in the world could inoculate 80 lakh people with the Covid-19 vaccines at a time.

We also extend our heartiest congratulations to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of her 75th birthday to be celebrated today. We wish her good health and happiness and many more years in the service of the people of the country as her visionary leadership continues taking Bangladesh forward alongside achieving immense social and economic transformation.

The people, who are going to get vaccinated today, must wear facemasks alongside maintaining the health guidelines and the authorities concerned would have to take prompt measures to check any fresh surge in Covid-19 cases due to the mass campaign. Besides, the authorities concerned must exercise strict vigilance in order to thwart any attempt to steal, store and sale of Covid-19 vaccines.

We think the vulnerable group like older people and university students should get vaccinated first. And we believe as the Covid-19 pandemic situation continues improving in Bangladesh, today’s special campaign to inoculate 80 lakh people, will make the country’s overall coronavirus situation further better.

Bangladesh has been lauded globally to control the COVID-19 pandemic as the country has intensified its multiple efforts, including vaccination and improving the healthcare system, to stop the spread of the deadly virus. As of September 25, a total of 24,197,598 people received the first shot and 16,033,971 exhausted the course getting the second dose. The number of people who got them registered so far is 44,115,145.

The government has decided to purchase 16.5 crore more COVID-19 vaccines from China and WHO initiative to expedite the countrywide vaccination campaign. Besides, the country has already set a target to vaccinate the country’s 80 percent population by next year under an accelerated inoculation campaign, expecting the receipt of required Covid-19 jabs within the estimated timeline. Bangladesh has so far approved eight COVID-19 vaccines to control the deadly disease. The approved COVID-19 vaccines are from Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, CoronaVac, Pfizer, Covishield, Sputnik V, Astra Zeneca and Sinopharm.

Many experts believe Covid-19 will eventually ease from a crisis to a nuisance like the common cold. Therefore, we still believe once the Covid-19 will be vanished from our planet.
