A mobile court in Thakurgaon conducted drive at the Bhulishno and Salonder market of Thakurgaon town on Sunday and realize a fine of Tk43,000 from the eight traders for selling onion and other daily essentials at a higher price than the normal on the back drop of coronavirus panic.
Executive Magistrate of Thakurgaon Abdullah-al-Mamun sentenced the fine on Sunday noon. It is learnt that, Thakurgaon district administration has taken up a stringent measure to check price spirals of the essential commodities in the markets amid coronavirus scare. The mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Abdullah-al-Mamun conducted the raid at Salondar Bazar and Bhilushno Bazar and fined 7 traders Tk18, 000 to take excessive price and not to display price list.
On the other hand, market monitoring team led by ADC (general) Nur Kutubul Alom fined a trader Tk25, 000 on the Consumers' Right Protection Act,at the same time. Besides, Goreya Animal Haat was shut down from Sunday to avoid rush of the people.
