The court of Additional District and Session’s Judge-1 Mohammad Shawkat Hossain sentenced eight persons for life in Juba League leader Jakir Hossain Mandal killing case. All of them were fined for Tk five thousand and to suffer for another seven years in under the Arms Act. The verdict was delivered on Monday morning.
The court had released Ganna Union Parishad (UP) chairman Nasir Uddin Malitha from the charge when he was proved innocent. Two other accused Mashiur Rahman and Uzzal Hossain were also released from the charge as they had died, said the court sources.
The convicts were Shanti Hossain, Abdul Karim, Lavlu, Abu Jahid Moni, Ibrahim Khalil alias Idris alias Idu, Mukul and Narir.
According to the witnesses, the victim Juba League Jhenaidah district unit joint convener Jakir Hossain Mandal alias Shanti was returning home for the town on July 7 of 2010. When he arrived near Kashimanagar Bridge with his motorbike, the miscreants gunned him down.
He was rushed to Jhenaidah Sadar hospital and then referred to Faridpur medical college hospital. As his condition was deteriorating faster, the attending physicians referred him to Dhaka medical college hospital. He succumbs to his injuries on the next day when he was undergoing treatment there. Later Jakir’s father in law had filed separate cases against some unknown miscreants with Jhenaidah Sadar police station o the day.
The police after a thorough investigation had submitted charge sheet against 11 persons including UP Chairman Nasir Uddin Malitha. Three of the accused had given their confessional statement during the hearing. The court after hearing from 19 witnesses had delivered the verdict. The accused will have to suffer for another six months if the fine was not realized.
