An eight-month-old infant was allegedly hacked to death by his mother in Thanaghat area of Shahjadpur upazila in Sirajganj over a family dispute.
The accused mother, Mukta Parveen, 21, placed a scotch tape over the baby Md Mahmudullah’s mouth so that he could not scream and later hacked him to death on Tuesday night. She had killed the child following a marital quarrel, police say.
Porjana Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Zahidul Islam Mukul and local Awami League leader Aminul Islam Belal said that Mukta married Abdullah around 2.5 years ago and they had been struggling with some marital disputes ever since.
At one stage, Mukta got divorced when she was pregnant. After the birth of the child, they got married again. But during the lock-down, the disputes got bigger. On Tuesday, Abdullah went to harvest paddy. After Tarabi prayers at night, Abdullah's mother and sister came to the house and saw the decapitated body of the infant.
