A total of eight armed terrorists, including the leader of the gang, were detained for their involvement in various criminal activities from Maijpara area under Pmkhali union in Cox’s Bazar Sadar during a special drive of joint forces on Friday.
A huge illegal locally made and foreign firearms, weapons and ammunition were recovered from their possession at that time.
Additional Superintendent of Police Abul Kalam Choudhury, Senior Assistant Director (Law and Media) of RAB-15, confirmed the matter at around 2:30pm on Friday.
The detainees were identified as Abdul Malek, 47, his brother Kalim Ullah, 35, sons of Kabir Ahmed, Khorshed Alam, 37, son of Forkan Ahmed, Hasan Sharif Laden, 20, son of Md Shafiullah, Mohammad Shahin, 23, son of Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Mizan, 20, son of Mahabubullah, Abdul Hai, 24, his brother Abdul Aziz, 25, sons of Mahmudul Haque, all residents of Maijpara area under Pmkhali union in Cox’s Bazar Sadar.
Additional Superintendent of Police Abul Kalam Choudhury, Senior Assistant Director (Law and Media) of RAB-15, said information on various armed terrorist groups who are involved in extortion, snatching, establishing supremacy and other various crimes in Pmkhali and its adjacent area in Cox’s Bazar were known through continues intelligence surveillance of RAB. These terrorist groups became active again and again with illegal local and foreign arms and their various criminal activities were increasing day by day. In this situation, RAB-15 increased their intelligence surveillance in Pmkhali and its adjacent area in Cox’s Bazar to bring the criminals under the law in order to control the overall law and order situation and to protect the lives and wealth of people.
Following this, a drive, led by the joint forces, was conducted on early Friday. Executive Magistrate Nowsher Ibni Halim was present during the drive.
The special joint drive was conducted by the coordination of law enforcement forces (RAB, Army, Police and BGB) in Maijpara area under Pmkhali union of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila. During the drive, eight terrorists, including the leader of the armed terrorist group Malek, were detained for being involved in various criminal activities.
Two foreign pistols, three one-shooter guns, two LG pistols, 48 rounds of cartridges, three magazines, five Dama, two Kirich, one Chinese axe and one chain were recovered from their possession at that time.
He also said during the primary interrogation the detained terrorists admitted that they were establishing supremacy in Pmkhali and its adjacent area in Cox’s Bazar for a long time and committing various criminal activities there. They also terrified people and created terror in the area with local and foreign firearms and other local weapons. They bought illegal local, foreign arms and ammunition from various sources to commit various crimes and establish supremacy. A case was filed against them and they were handed over to Cox’s Sadar Police Station.
