8 held for attack on Rohingya camp madrasa

APBN police have so far arrested eight people in connection with the killing of six persons at the Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama al-Islamiyah madrassa in the Rohingya camp in Ukhia of Cox's Bazar.

APBN Superintendent of Police, Shihab Kaiser said they were detained during a raid on a Rohingya camp on Friday night. 

Earlier on Friday morning, a Rohingya named Jasim was detained with a firearm and ammunition. Kaiser said the Rohingya camp was raided overnight on Friday. He did not immediately identify the detainees.

On the other hand, no case has been registered with the Ukhia police station yet.

Shihab Kaiser said the janaza and burial of the slain madrassa teachers and students was completed at midnight on Friday.

Meanwhile, reports from the scene said that Rohingya miscreants attacked Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama Al Islamiyah Madrasa in the H block of Rohingya Camp No. 18 in Balukhali on Friday morning, and the madrasa teachers and students took shelter in a nearby mosque. The attacking Rohingya terrorists killed two people who took refuge in the mosque.

The attack took place at around 4am on Friday. 

Earlier, police said there were clashes between the two groups in the camp, but later confirmed the attack on the madrassa.

The deceased have been identified as Hafeez, a resident of Rohingya Camp-12, Block-J-5 and Madrasa teacher Md Idris (32), Ibrahim Hossain, 24, son of late Mufti Habibullah of Camp-9, Block-19, Camp-17, Block-H. Azizul Haque, 22, son of Nurul Islam, 52, and Mohammad Amin, 32, son of Abul Hossain, a volunteer from the same camp. Madrasa teacher Nur Alam alias Halim, 45, son of Mohammad Nabi of FDMN Camp-17, Block-F-22, and Hamidullah, son of Rahim Ullah of FDMN Camp-24, also died at the Rohingya camp hospital.

Four FDMN members were killed in the attack. On learning of the incident, the police personnel of Mainarghona Police Camp-12 immediately rushed to the spot and rushed the injured to the hospital for treatment. Two more died while undergoing treatment. Police were able to arrest one of the attackers in Hatena with a home-loaded one-shooter gun, six rounds of ammunition and a knife. Police members of Mainarghona Police Camp-12 have been conducting block raids in and around Madut al Umma Madrasa, and other camp areas at the same time.

On the other hand, 14 APBN police have arrested another Rohingya terrorist on suspicion of being involved in the murder of Muhibullah, the top Rohingya leader killed on the night of September 29. However, the police have not confirmed his identity yet. Earlier, five more people were arrested in connection with the murder of Muhibullah.
