8 detained in Panchagarh for fraudulently collecting funds for flood victims

Locals in Panhchagarh caught eight frauds on Wednesday who were collecting money in the name of helping the flood affected people and handed them over to the law enforcement force.

They were caught from Goaljhar Bazar under Satmara union in Panchagarh sadar upazila on Wednesday noon.

They were identified as Babla, 41, Jalal, 40, Khalek, 55, Abil, 55, Jamirul, 31, Ramjan, 32, Rasel, 24 and Rezaul 30. All of them are from Ramerdanga area in Panchagar district town.

They were using a pickup truck with a banner ‘participate in relief help activities’ to fraudulently collect money from people.  

Process is ongoing to file case against them in Panchagarh sadar police station.

Sources from police and army said the fraud gang consisting of the eight people rented a car from Panchagarh district town pickup stand for a whole day to collect money for the flood affected people. When they were collecting money from Goaljhar area of sadar upazila, the locals stopped them and inquired them out of suspicion. They were talking incoherently at that time. As a result the locals caught them and handed them over to the BGB. Later, members of BGB and Bangladesh Army handed them over to the police members of Panchagarh police station.

Box for collecting money, banner, loud speaker and some cash were recovered from them at that time.

Inspector of Panchagarh police station Ronju Ahmed said eight people were detained on charge of collecting money in the name of helping the flood affected people. Later, army handed them over to the police station with the help of BGB. 

Process is ongoing to file case against them.
